Our road trip of the North coast of Sicily.

We load up the car with all we feel we need, Beach supplies, cooler of drinks, and snacks since its hard to get a bite to eat while driving. And we are off on our first adventure.

We decided to first drive to Patti and go Ceramic shopping. This is the place you go and get Caleca pottery that is dishwasher safe, and you can buy a whole matching place setting, and other ceramic items made by them. I wanted to get a few more pieces and see the new designs. Ralph liked the ones I bought last time and I wanted to get a complete set. But when we got there they were closed, I didn't know they closed early on a Sunday. We missed it by 30 mins. So we decide to drive into the little town to go and get a bite to eat. Usually you get a small bite to eat at a bar. The Italian bars are not like what you think of in the states. They serve sandwiches, ice cream, and of course this is where you can get your coffee. But we couldn't find one open, the town was dead, no one on the streets, everything closed. So we just grab snacks and a drink from the cooler and get back on the road. We are only about an hour or so from the next town where we will stay 2 nights in. We decided to do the scenic route instead of the autostrada. It was beautiful driving the coast line and since it was a Sunday during reposal, there was no traffic. So we took our time enjoying the view.

That is when we discovered our first mistake. I was getting low on gas, not too bad, but I was at the mark where I do not like to go below. We have not seen any gas stations for a while. When we finally found one, of course it was one of the smaller ones and it was closed. Just a word to the wise, if you decide to do this trip. Stop in Messinia and fill up, no matter what your gas level is. I started to tell Kim I had enough to make it to Cefalu where we were staying and there should be one there.
